Sony has been making moves in the recent year with studio acquisitions. Most notably, the PlayStation publisher announced a shocking acquisition of ex-Halo and Destiny developer Bungie for $7b billion.
Rumors were swirling the gaming channels in recent months that Sony was secretly in talks to acquire FromSoftware, the Japanese based developer behind the largely successful Elden Ring. It looks like while that rumor is no longer true, Sony has indeed increased its shares in the developer.
In an announcement this morning, Sony now owns 14.6% of FromSoftware, with gaming publisher Tencent Holdings raising its shares to over 16%. The two companies now own a combined total of 30% of FromSoftware.
